The first thought when a client decides to write a Will, there main concern is, who is going to be my beneficiary? Who is going to benefit and how much should they receive? However, it may be wise and advised to consider in fact, who you may use as an executor.
Who should I appoint?
You should always appoint executors who you can trust. There is no real need to appoint a professional executor, unless you believe and feel like there could be problems for certain individuals to act. Often a spouse/partner, close family member or friend is an appropriate choice. Your executors will need to speak with your beneficiaries and transfer funds to them. Therefore, we would advise for your executors and beneficiaries to maintain a form of relationship through this stage. If you believe and struggle to decided then it may be crucial if you consider a professional executor.
We recommend you choose a minimum of two individuals. However, you can appoint as many executors as you would like, but please note that only four executors can obtain probate (and, the more executors you appoint, the more signatures will be required!)
If you have any concerns on who is suitable to be an executor, please read this page again. However, please remember, your executor can pass this role onto a solicitor if they wish to do so.
